Government’s Efforts to Create More Job Opportunities and Increase Literacy Rates in Ghana

Ghana’s Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has revealed that the government has created over two million jobs for the youth in the past six years. The Vice-President made this disclosure while addressing congregants at the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers in Accra on Saturday.

He added that the country is set to have an unprecedented leap in literacy rates following the implementation of the free senior high school policy, which has led to an increase in the number of students accessing tertiary education. Dr Bawumia emphasized the importance of education and the acquisition of necessary skills to the progress of the nation, stating that the government was committed to ensuring that Ghana’s youth had access to education and opportunities.

Furthermore, the Vice-President urged the youth to take advantage of the government’s policies and programmes, including digital innovation, to promote their businesses. He highlighted the digital economy as the present and future of any nation and lauded Ghana’s proactive approach in the digital space, which he claimed had put the country ahead of many of its peers on the continent.

Dr Bawumia also spoke on the government’s inclusive development policies, which he said embraced all and had borne fruit for the collective development of the people. Some of the projects mentioned by the Vice-President include the provision of national identification cards, property addressing, and mobile money interoperability. He also mentioned the establishment of special development agencies, such as the Zongo Development Fund, as a special development vehicle for Zongo development.

In a nutshell, the Vice-President’s speech centered on the importance of education and the acquisition of necessary skills to the progress of the nation. He emphasized the government’s commitment to creating more job opportunities for the youth, which he believes will drive the country’s development. Dr Bawumia also highlighted the importance of digital innovation and urged the youth to take advantage of the government’s policies and programs in promoting their businesses.
